Our philosophy is that good stewardship is good business -
and we put that philosophy into practice every day.
United States Seafoods has worked closely with the North Pacific Fishery
Management Council (NPFMC) to lead the groundfish sector towards more responsible harvesting practices. Our team contributed to the
creation of an innovative program called Amendment 79 designed to
reduce waste in the multi-species ground-fish fisheries of the Bering Sea
and Aleutian Islands. We were also instrumental to the planning and
implementation of the Essential Fish Habitat Measures which closed
thousands of nautical square miles in the Aleutian Islands to bottom-trawling.
We have worked on issues as diverse as rockfish bycatch in the Aleutian
Islands and various concerns raised by western Alaskan communities.
We believe that maintaining a progressive, responsible, solutions-oriented
approach toward fisheries management is key to ensuring the long-term
health and viability of the North Pacific Marine Environment.
