This property is best known for its near 50-year history as the NOAA (National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration) Marine Operations Center - Pacific. NOAA's predecessor, the US Coast & Geodetic Survey, moved onto the property in 1963. Beginning in 1962, fill was brought in, since prior to then the property was nearly all submerged. All of the present docks, wharf, and buildings were constructed during the 1962-63 timeframe. NOAA succeeded the US Coast & Geodetic Survey in 1970 and occupied the property until the summer of 2011, when they relocated their operations to Newport, OR. In early July, 2006, there was a fire at the property which damaged both docks, the wharf, and the storage building at the east end of the dock.
