Ten-Month Alaska Fishing Season
Due to our partnerships with Alaskan Community Development Quota (CDQ) groups, we fish January through October (three months longer than non-partner vessels).

WHEELHOUSE

  • The Master is responsible for the running of the vessel. The Master has overall command and is expected to meet all legal requirements while carrying out fishing operations. The Master must remain aware as to the full operation of the vessel, its working condition, and whether the crew is performing their essential work requirements effectively and safely. This position requires advanced business skills, the ability to handle and motivate crews and oversee the health, safety and morale of a closed community at sea. This position requires working knowledge of all fishing regulations and laws applicable to the vessel and must possess the proper United States Coast Guard (USCG) license to perform the duties of a Master.
  • Mate is the second in command on the vessel, the Mate must remain aware as to the full operation of the vessel, its working condition, and whether the crew is performing their essential work requirements effectively and safely. The Mate assumes the responsibilities of the Master when absent, including the direct supervision of all the crew members. This position requires working knowledge of all fishing regulations and laws applicable to the vessel and must possess the proper USCG license to perform the duties of a Mate.
  • Bosun, also called Deck Boss, is responsible for supervising the deck crew, the day to day running of the deck and repairing fishing gear. The Bosun is responsible for maintaining deck safety, supervises the deck hauling, shooting and repairing the fishing gear. This is a skilled position and requires good understanding of the vessel operation, the ability to think and act quickly in the unpredictable environment and requires the ability work on deck in any situation that arises at sea.
  • Deckhands work under the supervision of the Deck Boss and are responsible for maintaining deck safety, including keeping decks clear and stowing unnecessary gear. Deckhands ensure the deck is kept clean, sanitary, and in good condition. This is a skilled position and requires good understanding of the vessel operation, the ability to think and act quickly in the unpredictable environment and requires the ability to work on deck in any situation that arises at sea.

ENGINEERING

  • Chief Engineer is responsible for the engine room, main engine all fuel requirements and must keep the ship running in all conditions encountered at sea. The Chief Engineer supervises and coordinates activities of the engine crew, is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the engines, deck machinery, electrical, refrigeration and sanitary equipment aboard the vessel. The Chief Engineer studies drawings specifications, performs complex calculations to conceive equipment and systems designed to meet requirements of the vessel. May specialize in design of equipment, such as boilers, heat exchangers, fire control and communication systems, electric power systems, or piping and related fittings and valves.
  • First Assistant Engineer works the opposite shift to the Chief Engineer and answers to the Chief Engineer in all matters. This position is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the engines, deck machinery, electrical, refrigeration, and sanitary equipment aboard the vessel. Assistant Engineers perform the same duties and are supervised and trained by the Chief Engineer.
  • Oiler assists the Engineering department with the maintenance of the vessel. This position works under direct supervision and requires the individual to be mechanically inclined.

FACTORY

  • Factory Foreman supervises the operation of the factory including organizing shifts, assessing work performance and maintaining work efficiency in the factory at all times. This position is responsible for the processing of product according to company specifications and standards. This position trains, supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in cleaning, eviscerating and preparing fish for packing. The Factory Foreman inspects fish at various stages of processing to determine if company standards are being met, such as proper handling techniques to prevent damage to fish. Directs, through subordinate supervisory personnel, workers engaged in processing, freezing, storing seafood products.
  • Factory Lead assists with supervision of the activities of workers in the factory. The Factory Lead trains workers to clean, eviscerate or prepare fish for packing. The Factory Lead inspects fish at various stages of processing to ensure company standards are being met, such as proper handling techniques to prevent damage to fish. Ensures that employees follow proper sanitation procedures such as keeping gear clean after each use, using clean gloves, wearing clean raingear, aprons, helmets, hair nets, beard nets, rubber boots that can be cleaned and sanitized. Maintains rigorous quality standards.
  • Factory Technician Machinist sets up and operates factory production fish processing machines. May fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts, fits and assembles machined parts into complete units, applies knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machinability of materials, and layout techniques. The Factory Technician Machinist may confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems. Ensures that employees follow proper sanitation procedures such as keeping gear clean after each use, using clean gloves, wearing clean raingear, aprons, helmets, hair nets, beard nets, rubber boots that can be cleaned and sanitized. Maintain rigorous quality standards.
  • Quality Control tests and inspects products at various stages of production process and compiles and evaluates statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products: Confers with management to determine quality and reliability standards. Selects products for tests at specified stages in production process and tests products for variety of qualities characteristics. Records test data, applying statistical quality control procedures. Ensures that employees follow proper sanitation procedures such as keeping gear clean after each use, using clean gloves, wearing clean raingear, aprons, helmets, hair nets, beard nets, rubber boots that can be cleaned and sanitized. Maintain rigorous quality standards.
  • Processors work in a fast paced production environment performing duties including but not limited to machine operation, washing, sorting, grading, gutting, cutting, packaging and freezer work. Processors also work to prepare the vessel for the voyage by loading supplies and off-loading of product. Processors work up to 16 hours a day, 7 days a week for 3 months or longer with no time off.
  • Combi work in the factory as a processor and will work on the deck, if needed. This is a trainee position and a stepping stone to a full time deck position.

GALLEY

  • First Cook supervises and coordinates activities of personnel in galley aboard vessel. Prepares well-balanced, nutritional meals for vessel crew. Responsible for planning meals, maintaining sanitary galley conditions and ordering food and supplies from company-approved vendors under the Captain's directions. Compiles cost records of food used.
  • Second Cook prepares and serves well-balanced, nutritional meals for vessel crew. Washes dishes and cleans galley and galley equipment. Responsible for maintaining sanitary galley conditions and ordering food and supplies from company-approved vendors under the First Cooks directions.
    Galley Assistant assists with preparing and serving meals for vessel crew, washes dishes, cleans the galley and cleans galley equipment. This position is also responsible for maintaining sanitary galley conditions.
  • Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining sanitary vessel and galley conditions. Responsible for all crew laundry and general housekeeping of the vessel. Replenishes supplies through out the vessel as needed.
