F/T Seafreeze Alaska History
The F/T Seafreeze Alaska was built in 1968. Originally named the Seafreeze
Atlantic, it was the first factory trawler built in the United States. The vessel is
presently classed by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) 1A1 Stern Trawler ICE class
specifications.

The F/T Seafreeze Alaska measures 295 registered feet, 44.30 registered breadth,
15. 90 registered depth and has a gross tonnage of 1,593. It has diesel electric
propulsion via 3 Bergen Diesel engines and has a combined shaft horsepower
of 3,000 hp. The vessel has undergone many recent upgrades.
The vessel’s factory is one of the most advanced, if not the most advanced, within
the H&G sector. . It was one of the first to have automatic graders installed. As of 2005, the vessel had four automatic graders and could process 130 tons of product
per day.
Operations
The F/T Seafreeze Alaska operates eleven months each year (January - November)
and has a total crew of up to 79. The F/T Seafreeze Alaska sails the Aleutian Islands,
Gulf of Alaska and Bering Sea harvesting Atka mackerel, cod, flatfish, and rockfish
as a head and gut (H & G) factory trawler. The master, mate, and chief engineer
all hold United States Coast Guard licenses and are lifetime fisherman
